Our little game at home

Wayne and I made a pack on a daily commitment to write a new quote and a new fact of the day
for each other on the little whiteboard posted up in my room.

Thought it would be fun to keep track of the funny things we write once in a while

PwC IDG Games 2006 at FRIM, Kepong

Netball Match #1 - up against Simply REds

View all 21 photos...
A big change in work-life situation at PwC...4 teams, Blue Demonz (my team), Simply Reds, Scarlet Green and Square Orange unite on one level playing field - FRIM for the glory of the this year's IDG (Interdepartment Games).
I was excited...having joined the netball team for a few trainings the past few weeks.
Being an amateur, I am no match for veteran school / uni players... well, at least I made it to FRIM to cheer my girls on! Blue Demonz...Go Go Go!
But alas... we had to meet the tough Simply Reds netball team in the prelim round. We lost flat, sadly to say. Fighting for 3rd place was another bummer...Admin. HR and L&E were super strong. Wow.. didn't know that Salika was that GOOD!
Anyways..for the spirit of sports...we played our best, and that's what counts most.

1 Footie pix - a mere quick snap shot because our FS team scored a goal!

Tug of war? Argh...disappointment... (sorry Ghim Joo, hehe.. I know you guys did ur best), but I could see that Square Orange team was tough. Our Blue Demonz team was down so fast and easily won over! It's okay guys...I know you tried

So much for IDG games. But no regrets...now I understand why people participate in sports. It's not just the teamwork, the spirit of sports.; but the friendship and people whom you meet along the way. I can't say enough that I'm blessed to meet new friends from various departments - ETax, ESG...girls, you were wonderful and it was great playing together!
Cheers.

Lantern Festival at Bukit Jalil Stadium

View all 29 photos...
I guess that this event is probably held to promote 'Visit Malaysia Year 2007', which is coming up next year. This lantern festival, which will be on from May up till end of July 2006, is up to capture local folks with its cheap RM5 entry fees for fun, entertainment, creative and magical
lantern lights. It wasn't until Saturday morning when I had netball prac at Bukit Jalil family park (located nearby the Hockey stadium) that I decided to pop by the main stadium for a peek of what is installed for viewers coming to enjoy the night view. Excited... I 'rounded' my family together, and we set off with Auntie Jessie, the very same night after a quick dinner to enjoy the brightly-lit Bukit Jalil stadium.
Interesting, definitely... it wasn't just the lights and the massive structures...but the stuff within.
Have a closer look at the dragon structure, and I was amazed to see that it was built out of China ware - plates, teacups etc. How creative!
The Petronas Twin Tower model was another amazing sight - standing tall and strong - made out of tiny coloured bottles! Fascinating! And I thought it was just going to be normal structures with light bulbs hanging here and there and some red CNY decorative lanterns.
Mmm...alighting the Star LRT in the morning at Bukit Jalil brought a wash of memories...
Commonwealth Games in 1997, and yea..Riverdance concert...

To local folks who like some cheap fun and a place to take lots of pix and chill out a bit....
check out the lantern festival ok? It's on till end of July 2006. Enjoy!

Once-in-a-lifetime experience - boarding USS Ronald Reagan!!!

USS Ronald Reagan at a distance

View all 58 photos...
Thinking tom cats and fighter jets from Top Gun and Air Force One as just part of the movies? Think again!! I'm here for real.

Today marks a very special once-in-a-lifetime experience for me!
I had the grandest opportunity to board the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier, which made waves by docking at Port Klang, Kuala Lumpur some days ago. Not only did I get to board and tour around the largest and NEWest aircraft carrier... but to be ushered around by the honourable Admiral Mike Miller himself was the most rewarding experience!
He is such a nice, jovial and handsome navy in white uniform. I was dying for photos with him and his crew!!! Wow....
Who went? Auntie OC, Auntie Jackie, Uncle Thomas & family, Che2 Su Chien & family, my family, Robin , Uncle Kgyn and Auntie Oi Choo's friends...

Visiting the interior of the ship was cool...but the unique experience of getting on the 'elevator' used to raise jet fighter planes to the deck was SOOO cool!!! I can't even describe this elated feeling I am feeling right now, despite the fact that the tour ended some hours ago this morning. Security was tight at Westport, with guards all over ensuring that only people who had passes and access to go through. American soldiers and sailors in uniform in REAL person certainly was a pleasant sight - to me, at least!

To think that a tour would just be a usual tour around the deck...with introduction to fighter planes, and the finest details of how landing and take-offs are all about...
we even got the chance to go up to the control deck!!! I was thrilled!
Admiral even invited us to get cosy in his room up on one of the floors in the control tower.
We were served with yummy chocolate cookies baked to satisfaction by his skilled cullinery staff and cooling iced-tea. Served by REAL handsome navy crew...? I'm living in a dream.
And that wasn't all, Admiral Mike Miller even permitted us to see his bedroom. Wow...
I can't say anymore, can I?

Learnt some colour codes: Purple for fuel, Red for bombs, and White for safety. Hehe
Assorted flags in line to mark words...mm...secret codes, I guess.

I could go drooling for a long time...hunky, tall, handsome white men in uniform who can fly fighter jet planes!
I just HAD to have some pictures with these guys....

This is my first and BEST ship visit ever!!! I am blessed, I truly am.

Family Trip to Pulau Ketam

YT & Wayne
Views from the Control Tower...cool isn't it?

View all 54 photos...
This has been one of the most exciting family trips ever that I can ever recall!
A normal small family trip to me is fun, but getting the whole family (relatives and grandma too) altogether on a one-day trip family outing (apart from CNY) is totally COOL!

Auntie Oi Choo and Uncle Henry were kind to organise such a lovely outing for all of us...with itinerary planned all the way from breakfast to the last transport back home. We pushed off from Bangsar filling up a chartered bus (32 uncles, aunties, cousins included) to Angkasapuri KTM Komuter station.
Next stop, ahoy...and away...to Pelabuhan Klang stop! I was pretty engrossed chatting with Su Ann all the way that I didn't know we made it that far to the last KTM stop.

Notice the pictures mostly greenish like? They are actually pictures taken up from the 19th Floor of the Port Klang Westport Control Tower ! Awesome!!! It is so nice of my aunt to arrange an opportunity for us to catch the best view of ships coming in and pretty landscape from afar. Wow! is all I can say.
Check out some of the cars arranged in rows. Apparently those are cars that get 'stuck' at the port due to AP issues.

Pulau Ketam or 'Crab Island' definitely has a reason to its name. A small township (or village) on its own - built on stilts on a sandy / swampy area filled with crabs all over.
What amazed me the most is the main mode of transport there, which was bicycles being fitted with motors. Besides that, scooters are a vast sight - quiet travel vehicles compared to the noisy large bikes you find in the city. Nice
Of course, the main reason people would flock to the island would be solely for the fresh and delicious seafood. Lunch was marvellous - from crab to fish to prawns, bamboo 'la-la' ...doesn't it just make your mouth water?

Great day - Great Fun! Can't say more.

Popo's Grand Birthday celebration

My family (kazoku)
Pretty ladies ?
Self-photo

Chinese calender's Dumpling festival annually marks our popo's Chinese birthday.
Like every year's affair, lots of effort is put into making our grandparents' birthday a successful and memorable occasion surrounded by close family and friends.

This year's Birthday dinner was held at Restoran Hooi Loong, in DJ ... somewhat 5 mins drive from my home. So near, yet if not for a special occasion like this, I have never had dinner there before.

Everyone was requested to dress NICE for the dinner in view that we were going to have a family photo-taking session...but alas, it started raining cats and dogs, so photography was cancelled. AND...the great (or 'not-so-great' thing about it..hehe), karaoke session was a reason to stay a bit longer after dinner (due to the rain). Hoong-Teng, my yes...handsome cousin who always comes in a sense of style.... decided to enchant popo with some love ballads. HAHA! It was so funny..

Wonderful Saturday, ..and next stop, Pulau Ketam trip to look forward to.

1st Wesak International Film Festival 2006 <www.wiff.org.my>

Movie "Travellers and Magicians"

It's the 1st Wesak International Film Festival 2006! <www.wiff.org.my>
Kicking off this weekend (20-21st May) and continuing the drive next weekend (27-28 May 2006).
When I first got to know about this film fest, I was greatly excited and elated about going!
Movies - Films! I simply HAD to go!!!

This event is really wonderful as it conporates all sorts of film types , be it documentaries, full-length films, and even children animation. How not a better way than to introduce Buddhism to the public via movies and films? I think it was a fantastic breakthrough this year in doing something 'different' to celebrate Wesak. Bravo to all 15 Buddhist Organisations that have made this festival a success

Wanna thank Justyn for being so nice to accompany me to the film fest. Thanx
We took the LRT down to Dang Wangi station, and took a 10-minute slow walk to MTC (Malaysian Tourist Centre) along Jalan Ampang, just a mere short distance from Renaissance Hotel in KL. To give it a second thought, if not for this event, I have never thought of stepping into MTC! What have I missed in the last 20-ish years of my life - not even knowing what's up and about in KL

Since no pictures were taken...just wanna leave a nice tingling sensation with this write-up on
the movie "Travellers and Magicians" (Bhutanese) - the movie that kept me back at MTC to witness the opening premier nite

This story is written and directed by Khyentse Norbu Rinpoche, who made his directorial debut in 1999 with the semi-autobiographical The Cup (1999).

Travellers and Magicians won the Audience Award at the 2004 Deauville Asian Film Festival in France. The movie is about two men who embark on parallel, but separate, journeys. Their yearning is a common one – for a better and different life.

Dondup, delayed by the timeless pace of his village, is forced to hitchhike through the beautiful countryside of Bhutan to reach his goal. He shares the road with a monk, an apple seller, a papermaker and his young daughter, Sonam. Throughout the journey, the perceptive yet mischievous monk relates the story of Tashi.

It is a mystical fable of lust, jealousy and murder, that holds up a mirror to the restless Dondup, and his blossoming attraction to the innocent Sonam. The cataclysmic conclusion of the monk’s tale leaves Dondup in a dilemma – is the grass truly greener on the other side?

Boo...I wish I could attend it. I never seem to be able to go back during Wesak day. Sometimes I feel guilty for not putting enough effort to be a devoted Buddhist ever since I moved here but I did make myself drive 1 hour to Southfield Buddhist Temple. It was so refreshing that I wished I had done it earlier. They practice Theravada Buddhism and it all felt so much like home. They usually don't do the entire Puja session but just up to Panca Sila and then proceed to Metta Sutta.

But I feel so thankful to get all the updates from you and very greatful to have you encourage me and remind me about keeping focus. Thanks girl!

Wesak Day 2006

View all 29 photos...
A joyful and memorable day for all Buddhists and a good 'public holiday' for many since everyone is thankful for the long weekend that we get to enjoy (especially for busy working people like myself )

Wesak - eve: Made a trip down to Brickfields Maha Vihara temple (the temple where I actually grew up and dwelled during annual holiday camps and was involved in assorted activities).
BMV - a place where I met the nicest NICEST people - my Kalyana Mitra friends.
I miss you guys - didn't get to see most of you at temple except for Sze Huey (my really wonderful friend i.e. my "BISDS other half") . I hope the rest of you all are out there somewhere doing something good to usher in Wesak. May the spirit of Wesak be with you.

Wesak night procession was wonderful! Last year, I was one of the participants in the procession.. coming back to lots of aches and pains, but this year I decided to be a bystander and snap as many photos to commemorate the occasion with mum, dad, Wayne and my Auntie Jessie. BEautiful! We waited patiently near KL Sentral at 7-ish pm to catch a good view of the float.
Check out the CHEMPAKA BUDDHIST LODGE one (the dragon) - really impressive!

Leaving 2 small photo shoots of event prior to the procession - dinner at home.
Dad bought two super LARGE 'pau' from Taman Conought, Cheras (is the spelling rite?) that I have never seen before in my life! My idea of "Tai Pau"isn't that large!

To end with a smile, wishing all viewers out there a well and happy year ahead!
Sukhihotu - May You Be Well & Happy Always!

sweet!!! Oh i miss this whole wesak feeling!! aiks...you know what..I dont remember me ever participated in wesak possessions ...maybe should experience it one day ..hehe
may you be well and happy too!

Frank & Angie's wedding

View all 34 photos...
Aww...weddings will always bring thoughts of romantic settings, roses, the most beautiful person of the day - the bride all dressed in white, looking radiant and soooo pretty.
Moving ahead....looking exquisite and lovely with shimmering pearls and silk...as she walks down the isle to be the ONE ... the RIGHT guy....

Ok, I'm getting carried away. Back to the actual reason for my entry:

Today marks a very special day for my cousin, Frank ...being the first to lead the day for my dad's side of the family. I was caught by surprise upon the news of wedding bells only during CNY this year...he sheepishly kept most of us in the dark! Haha...

I learnt something about weddings this time around. Didn't know that Chinese customs and pantang-larang were THAT complicated! "Must learn...", my aunties whispered in a teasing manner. "Err...." I could only respond in the most polite manner without offending anyone.
Tips for *future* planning? We shall have to wait and see (if there ever will be)

Ah...Wedding dinner. For a change to typical hotel dinners, we settled for nicer Chinese Food at Imbi Palace Chinese Restaurant (as the name goes...the restaurant is located near Jln Imbi in KL). Mind me - although I work in KL, my knowledge of KL roads still needs to be updated.

All in all, a big eventful day for my family - welcoming someone new to the family

Can we anticipate more angpows in the coming CNY? Such question need no further clarification

p/s: The reason why I have more family photos than the actual wedding photos is because it was soooo hard to take nice pictures in such a crowded event... Obviously the professional photographers are given priority in the best views and candid shots. I will just have make do with my photographic memory shots
