A brief reflection...
|
|
Working alone...been working alone for the past 1 1/2 weeks in my insurance audit job; fun and flexible doing things on my own for a change. It felt great. Yeah, maybe it does get a bit lonely, but
there's always a chance to relate and share experiences with other friends to make it all better.
It always makes it all better if the person you share experiences with helps to motivate and
make you smile, especially a long tiring day.
In the LRT one morning this week, I started to relate bits and pieces of my life, love and friendship to my shopping experiences.
Doesn't it make one wonder sometimes when you walk past a classy departmental store and go wow-wow over a glamorous black gown that stands mighty in display over a slim, thin mannequin (and wishing that wow, how great you can look in that??). But what stops you is the Superbly absorbic price tag which gets you sighing..and walking away silently leaving the dress behind.
Similarly, I felt that it was like meeting a guy for the first time...a Prince Charming (like Prince William, lolz)...but yeah, unfortunately...you know..he's just out of your league - beyond reach - untouched..
Then again, there are times when you probably see a nice blouse or skirt when you are browsing among the racks in apparal department, or shoes, for the matter...you like it..but mm...maybe you MIGHT buy it, maybe you might not. It doens't give u the WOW feeling, but you have chances to consider it..it's pros and cons..and worse-come-to-worse, just try it and leave without a purchase.
That, I feel happens very often to me- meeting people...friends...slow and steady, step-by-step to know people before (if any) feelings do pop up. Even good friendships are developed over time, and not over a 1-date conversation or 1-day course. But if over time, no matter how you try, and no matter how you make the best of the situation and feel that this "friend" and you don't click (even though others may not feel the same), don't be disheartened because everyone is different, and it is completely normal if you can't find yourself fitting in when other people seem to do it without any trouble.
Mm..I suppose my sudden peak interest in learning more about people has influenced my thoughts...and opened my eyes to appreciating the different characters around me.
At the end of the day, be grateful and appreciate the people you have around you - family, friends..people whom care deeply about you...
Be happy TODAY and RIGHT NOW. May All Beings Be Well & Happy Always!

Farewell Party for So-nia at La Bodega, Bangsar
|
|
'So long Farewell' - a liner one would happily sing on the famous Classic movie, "The Sound Of Music", but when it comes to really saying farewell to a friend, feeling is different.
It was a surprise for me when I heard from friends that 2 of my Batchmates were leaving the firm. My bewildered expression took over me... I never expected them to leave so fast. I felt I was among the ones contemplating on leaving, but am still 'here' apparently.
This farewell party was organised for our friend, Thor So-nia, who's off to pursue some other career of her dreams...and I do wish her good luck and all the best! We should never say Goodbye with jealousy, instead be happy (Mudita) and appreciate the friendship times you had with people and make an effort to keep in touch
Location: Dinner and drinks at La Bodega : Tapas Y Vinos - Authentic Spanish Cuisine, Bangsar (same row with MPH) Dinner & Drinks from 8pm - 11-ishpm
People present: Haha, I do not know everyone..but the few I recall are So-nia, Ying Mei, Phoebe,Gladys, Chi Min, Kenny, Steven, Jenna, June Leng and myself. Sorry I do not know the other lovely ladies in the pix

Farewell cum birthday celebration for Purdey
|
|
It was really thoughtful of my friend, Purdey to invite me and a few other DJ-ians to her farewell...
Am really proud of her - obtaining sponsorship from Australia to pursue her PhD in Microbiology.
Being enthusiastic about the achievement of a friend is a feeling that I have for my friends - it's wonderful when you just hear about your friends 'being there' and 'going for their dreams'.
I am glad that I went - getting to meet old friends from DJ...Kuok Chien, Jun Han, Audrey, Ser Yik,
Akmal... people whom I haven't seen for ages!!! . So much to catch up in a nite about the HapPenings that I left out...
(A big THANK YOU to Audrey for the photos. So unfortunate that I left my FULLY-CHARGED camera batteries at home. Getting 'ol)
Purdey also brought everyone (including friends from Uni Melb) for a tour around her beautiful house - it's a 2 1/2 storey house in Villa Damansara - really really beautiful. Designed to the exquisite taste by her talented brother, Clement, who's currently studying architecture in RMIT, Melbourne - I have to say that he has done a superbly remarkable blueprint for his family home. WOW!
Memories, memories - nostalgic feelings keep my days going...

Echoes of Buddhism #2 in Penang & LOTS more!
|
|
Yay...I'm off to Penang after so many years of not visiting the Pearl of the Orient island.
Main aim was obviously for Igemz concert - I luv their music so much... truly inspiring Buddhists thru the wonderfulness of music. Once again, I was taken in by the performance - emotionally strucked by the performances..the singing..aww...
Some songs were dedicated our our beloved late Chief Reverand - we are grateful and thankful for his teachings and undying passion in spreading the Dhamma to the world. Sadhu x3.
After a night of fulfilling music, we went on for a short yumcha along Jln Burmah - hang out till 1am-ish.
The concert was held at the Caring & Society Complex (Masyarakat Penyayang) nearby the Turf club/ horse racing club.
We stayed at this Chinese community bungalow just behind Caring complex - something like papa's house in Melaka.
Next morning, chill.......Sze Huey and I followed Mei Joon, Wendy and Li Ming(hope I got her name rite) around town shopping for biscuits + having "breakfast" (mm..this is an understatement as I never eat SO MUCH food for breakfast) nearby Chowrasta market. Enjoyed delicious Hokkien Mee (it's Prawn Mee in KL and cendol laters...) We rounded a few times and finally went over the so-called famous Swatow Lane (famous for Ais Kacang) to meet Ah Ban and Larry and new friend, I-van. After that, adventure-adventure-adventure!
Kek Loksi Temple, brunch - Asam Laksa and POPIAH (a must combination at the foot of Kek Loksi temple in Ayer Itam), ferry ride back to mainland...
With just Ah Ban, Sze Huey and I...we detoured back to Parit Buntar to visit Ah Ban's USM Engineering Campus. Didn't know that Ah Ban studied mining..mm..interesting!
Took lots of photos, and conducted our own campus tour in USM.
Perhaps I should feel privilleged to be able to tour this campus - not many chances come by to visit a place like Parit Buntar, quiet remote town...but in lies acres of wide uni campus in a mini world of its own. Amazing!
The clock tower is a significant landmark - marking the border of 3 states (most likely Perak , Kedah and Pahang) as you turn around 360 degrees. Mm..I wonder how the people clearly define their state holidays
Last but not least... we stopped off at Taiping lake. Oh, it is sooo beautiful...just look at those pictures, and you can imagine the happy feeling all of us felt just strolling by the lake...enjoying the evening as the sun set in the horizon. I wished there were more lakes in PJ. Place where couples find bliss just enjoying the view.
Mm... my mind floats to think of Pachabel's Canon in D.
Aqua??? Nah...didn't see any, but we did see one at the Tupai Petronas station as we stopped a quick stop to fill gas.
Probably the longest ride home from Penang ever - we left around 3pm, to arrive back home at 11.30pm!
Regrets? Maybe guilt for not getting enough rest before working today in office. Then again, I'm all charged up and happy writing my column as usual. Have a nice day there.......ADIOS!

A short entry...
|
|
Cruising along to the LRT station this morning, traffic seemed to much lighter than usual.
First thought came to mind - it's September 11 today, marking its 5th anniversary since the fateful, tearful disaster day. I briskly read the papers this morning - reading about the efforts America is taking to rebuild Ground Zero. No one can wipe away the blood and tears that people are feeling..
Mm..probably another reason why I am typing this entry today...yes, an itch to blog.
Reflecting on my past encounters on heart-to-heart discussions with guy friends on gals and relationships...keeps my mind thinking about lots of things. Doesn't the famous "Men are from Mars, and Women are from Venus" ring a clear bell to the common "I don't understand men/women" dilemna?
Recapping KC's MSN blog about one of his friend's tale of grass-picking...mm...I think it's normal, and oh, very so true.
Yes (embarassed and shy)...age is catching up with all of us, but let's mother nature determine its call.

PwC Treasure Hunt KL - Lumut (26-27th August 2006)
|
|
Theme of the Hunt: Pirates of the Caribbean (Dead Man's Chest) - Back to where it all begin.
So that's the theme of the hunt..i.e. most questions deciphered had lots to do with the movie. To begin the tale:
5.30am...alarm clock rings, and I'm wide-awake for the Treasure Hunt! Moments lapse as I recall yesterday's horror of being caught in the KL Flood around Masjid Jamek area. It was terrifying...
saw some ladies getting hysterical upon seeing water splashing out from drains (a mini tsunami) of chocolate-irky water...it was an adventure home - leaving office prompty at 5.30pm with no prior presumptions and preparations for the KL flood - to only reaching home around 8.30pm.
Mm..I am thankful for the 'knowledge' I have of public transports around KL. Saved me a few hours, I think.
Oops..sorry I digressed. Needed to write something about the flood. My only pictures stored in the camera phone are a blur.
Back to topic of interest - PwC Treasure Hunt to Lumut.
My Team #98: The Magicians comprise of Salika (my HCC manager), her hubby (Rudy Ng), Steven
and myself. Ok, so maybe we didn't win any prizes..not even the 25th one but it was a vast improvement from last year. Treasure Hunters are smarter this year around! Most knew the sense to stay IN the car, and not walk from one end of the tulip marker to the other end. Smart!
And oh, it was fun 'dressing up' Rudy as the key main pirate. Our Jack Sparrow Challenge turned out to be dressing up one of our key team members as Jack Sparrow and the other 3 of us as his 'underlings / mates' . It was fun...and so funny.
After a whole day of Treasure Hunt, dressing up and making our ways through the coastal roads starting off from Bukit Kiara Science Centre - Sg Buloh - Tanjung Karang - Sabak Bernam - Setiawan etc..finally reaching Lumut - Swiss Garden resort @ Damai Laut, teams enjoyed a relaxing evening followed by dinner - prize giving in the grand ballroom. After that, it was FREE AND EASY or what-you-call "DYOT" (Do your own thing) session all the way till our ride home. I hanged out with Woei King and MMG friends, and
made my way to bed for an early birdwalk cum breakfast before pushing off back to KL at 9.30am.
Rudy drove us to Sg Buloh bridge where we had some yummy Kajang satay before dropping us
back safely at our homes. It was such a wonderful trip with them!!!
Swiss Garden seems like a 4 Star Hotel..really nice place. The bar was cool...
Rooms were really nice, and I got one on the 5th floor overlooking the sea from the distance.
Located quite secluded from the town, the hotel was situated next to a golf course.
GREAT TRIP! Perhaps another time together next year, mates?!

University of Nottingham - Malaysian Campus @ Semenyih - OpenDay
|
|
A week has passed and I haven't written anything about my campus tour in Nottingham University in Semenyih. Yes, it is true! Having heard so much about the reputable campus in the heart of Selangor, another half-an-hour ride from Kajang town to this secluded, self-contained campus located in Semenyih..only to be surrounded by acres of oil palm and development of new housing areas in a short distance.
Modern with a fresh smell of paint were the initial thoughts that came to mind upon embarking on a short 1 hour campus tour with some guys (engineering undergraduate students) who took us around campus in conjunction the Open Day. What comes to your mind on a Open Day? Crowds of people, flyers everywhere, large banners, free drinks, usherers and inadequate parking space? Well, not quite.
Not sure what it is, but we were the really "few" families to make the road trip all the way to Semenyih.
And to think, I was actually planning to take the KTM, and then the free bus over...mm.. it would have been a super long day. Luckily had my dad, who was kind enough to free his time to bring the family out for an outing - to finish it off with famous Kajang satay and mm...largest Char-siew Pau at Taman Conought @ Cheras. Made a deal with Leng (my cousin sis) that she couldn't finish it on her own.
Funny alright.
Each building in Nottingham is painted with a unique colour. Some buildings house common lecture theatres
and tutorial rooms, whereas some are more specific with labs for engineering.
Accommodation isn't too bad really..quite nice place. The students' lounge seems quite cosy too.
A small version of UQ uni, probably! Of course can't really compare coz the uni only currently has about 1000 odd students enrolled. (FYI: The campus opened only in Sept 2005)
Being here at Nottingham really makes me wish that I'm back in uni.
Hopefully one day...am dreaming, still dreaming

An Evening with Jim Brickman@Arena of Stars, Genting! BeSt 3veR!
|
|
It's barely a few hours since I returned from one of my BeSt weekend trips ever!!
I went for Jim Brickman's concert! [SCREAMS!!!]
A weekend together for 2 good friends, Li Foong & Sze Huey - was one of the best things ever to fit into our ever tight working schedule. It was really fun hanging out and chatting about things..
so much to talk about after not really getting to do that since we both starting working in the corporate world.
Jim Brickman's concert (last night) was truly one of the best concerts I have ever attended!
Already impressed with his talents at the piano, I was amazed that he is such a funny person (as in cracks jokes and makes the audience laugh)...and aww...he can SING! I have NEVER heard Jim Brickman sing!
Not failing to mention, we had guest artists like Fauziah Latiff, Phoebe (a new upcoming singer from UK)and John 'something' (oops...but his voice is just FANTASTIC. Why didn't they sell his album? Sigh..and he's handsome too...)
It's hard to describe if you didn't make it there to the concert - I was just simply 'taken away' by the music....really romantic.... Aww...
I can just feel the music go right through me as I close my eyes...
Ok, stop dreaming!
This morning was spent at the outdoor theme park - feeling young again and vibrant..but sitting kiddie rides. Haha! I'm a no-no when it comes to roller-coasters, as most of my friends would already know.
What to do - OLD already (being in the 2-O range must certainly represent something)
Ah, and I paid a visit to the Casino this time around! Not up to my expectations, haha.
Surprisingly, this was my first visit to a casino in Genting, since the last time around... I couldn't even get close (even though I was INCHING to the legal age of 21). Chui Yee may remember the encounter *winks*
Cooling down on Sunday night - a long week beckons tomorrow onwards with Monday laying out at its feet. Arrivedeci everyone!
