Floral arrangement workshop at Tiratana Penchala

Cymbidium (Orchid)
Pandan leaves..
View all 12 photos...
My first visit to Ti-ratana Community Centre, Penchala...
Date: Saturday, 12 September 2009
Time: 10.30 am - 1.30 pm
Instructor: Bro Wong Mun Yee

Floral arrangement workshop...thought I wouldn't be going..until Emily mentioned that she was interested. But last minute, I ended up going alone... but hey, it was still great!
I had such a fun time.
Learnt lots of things from the si-fu (none other than Mei Joon's fiance, Wong Mun Yee)

Taking down the names of flowers/leaves that I learnt
1. Cymbidium (Orchid) - there are 30-50 variances around...
2. Dancing ladies ~ to brighten up the bouquet (last stalk to insert)
3. Mochara Orchid
4. Gobera (Daisy)
5. Iron leaves
6. Johor leaves / Japanese bamboo
7. Paku / Ferns
8. Bamboos (Chrysenthenmum) - remember that the flowers that we grow are not cultivated for consumption...don't attempt to dry them and boil into a drink!
9. Pandan leaves
10. Dragon's beard...spooky..

Tips to remember:
Leaves are important in floral arrangements - to enhance the beauty of flowers

How to preserve flowers?
1. Drop 2 panadols inside the water (serious?!)
2. Cut stems 45 degrees...yeah, so that absorbtion is better
3. Remove leaves at the bottom of the stems..they take up more water
4. Keep flowers in a cool place. No fan / aircon...they absorb more moisture
5. Change water everyday + cut stems 2 days once

Shapes and Sizes
1. Most common shape is the triange
2. Long and low
3. Moon shape
4. L-shape
5. Cone
6. Round shape

Height - no fixed measurement...depends on what arrangement one is interested in putting up.
Colour - contrast is good - makes the flower stands out...

and more importantly...Bro Mun Yee (hehe, should proudly introduce him as Mei Joon's fiance)
makes a gal feel soooo good. He spoke about "Behind every successful man is a woman.."
while "Behind every successful woman is.... a florist!" (lolz)
No la..the main thing is that floral arrangement is a form of therapy...it cultivates
mindfulness, peace...
He gets joy when he gives the flowers to the recipient..the smile on each lady's face.

Aww... I love flowers!!! Hehe...obviously it means much more if I receive it from a right person and at the right time

Heng Hee's Birthday Celebration

Maki roll...house special
Salad

View all 12 photos...
I organised a birthday celebration for Heng Hee...with all our friends...at Hanazen, a cosy Japanese restaurant at Jaya 1, PJ.

Knowing that Heng Hee loves Japanese food... since no one else had any fixed preference, I decided
on the date (1 week earlier than actual birthday date since Heng Hee has plans on his actual birthday already ^^).

Attendees to celebrate the joyous occasion:
Yuet Mei, Chi Min, Ghim Joo, In Lunn, Pui San, Steven...

Chu Guan, Adeline, Fui Yoon, Sie Wee and Sook Yee couldn't make it..never mind, next time then.

We ordered basically many things..but so small portion. However, we are so lucky that we got a room...so we could enjoy the night away. Glad that Heng Hee enjoyed the surprise - the birthday cake (which I sneaked in during lunch time for the surprise )

We ordered a bit of everything - from Salad - Maki rolls - sashimi - grill fish - Japanese rice balls...
and also Fried Rice!!! (coz everyone was still hungry..haha)

All-in-all, it was a good reunion gathering cum birthday !

Lunch with Siew Fong @ Jaya 1

We haven't seen Siew Fong for oh...so long.
Decided to meet up for a nice lunch - Mexican food at a nice, quiet restaurant embedded in
Jaya 1.

Frontera Bar & Grill.... it was ok... situated nearby popular hotspots (indicated on the web) such as the likes of Japanese food (Hanaichi) , Brussles Bear Cafe and Chinese Ducking restaurant.

Good to catch up - reunite Batch mates!

Long disappearence!

Oh man...I neglected my fotopage for way too long. There's lots to be done to find back missing pictures and tell missing stories.

Target to update as much as possible by year-end...

It would be such a waste if I didn't since I started my very first memories on Fotopage when I got my 1st very own digicam back in 2004.

Patience patience. When's there's a willl; there's a way!

My first time to Solaris, Mont Kiara...
nice.... I would like to go there again to experience the night life..the cafes...
I can just imagine it happening... wow...

Our Team Lunch started from 12-ish up to 4pm! That's eat-eat-eat non stop on a nice Friday..
and relax!!!

The food was not too bad..what's good? The coconut drink, steam cod fish (yum!)..the rest are reasonably good.

Anything's good when one doesn't need to work

German Food @ Deutsches Gasthaus

View all 6 photos...
2 close friends just wanted to chill out and have some fun... with the aim of being more adventurous and trying a different assortment of food altogether. GERMAN!

After deciding back and forth between a new classier place in Damansara Perdana, or the original location in TTDI, we settled for the cosier place in Taman Tun. This place is called Deutsches Gasthaus 2.... there's like 1, 2 and 3! Hehe..I guess it makes them remember how many outlets they may have.

Tucked in one of the lanes along Lorong Rahim Kajai area, surprisingly it was quite quiet that night on a Saturday night. Perhaps we were early. But towards the end of our long happy meal enjoyment including lots of sharing, we both realised that it was already 9-ish pm and that the restaurant was filled with many couples enjoying their European cuisine.

Nice place to try... German sausages...
We saw that Pork Knuckle is famous, but just looks too huge for 2 gals to divulge in.

Singapore Trip (19th-21st June 2009)

Trip to Singapore - thinking about it back probably brings a stint of sadness, but overall, I am so glad I went. For the GSS (Great Singapore Sale) and meeting up with friends, I certainly think it was all done well..... I have no regrets whatsoever.
